Digitally remastered edition of this album from the Jazz/R&B pianist. One of the rarest King albums of the late '60s from the organ-playing 'Honky Tonk' hit-maker. Features both sides of Doggett's in-demand James Brown-produced single, 'Honky Tonk Popcorn' and a re-recording of 'Honky Tonk' featuring backing by the JBs. BGP/5(3).

Though credited to bandleader/organist Bill Doggett, his role is frankly rather secondary in the success of the recording -- at times you can't even hear an organ -- with more kudos due to Scott in particular. In a weird postscript to the single, Doggett cut a vocal version of "Honky Tonk" with singer Tommy Brown.

The rock and roll era's first great instrumental hit was born in Lima, Ohio during a series of one-night stands by Bill Doggett and his Combo in Doggett had already established his jazz reputation many years before with his own band, then writing, arranging, and playing the organ for the Ink Spots, Louis Jordan, and Ella Fitzgerald.

This is the seldom seen/heard collaboration album, of organist Bill Doggett playing with the James brown band of the sixties. It features the classic break cuts of "Honky tonk", and "Honky tonk popcorn",also a killer version of Otis reddings "Mr pitiful". Although Doggett was known more as a jazz player, this album, is low down and dirty funk.
